John H. Schassen (Johannes Heinrich von Schassen)
brother of Henry, Trinchen, Annie and Emma in Germany, was born 1862 in Ritsch (baptized in Assel) Hanover Province, Germany, the son of John and Margaret (Witt) Schassen, and came to the United States as a young man, settling on a farm in the Kent area of S Sherman County, Oregon. When John H. became a naturalized citizen of the United States, he "americanized" his name by dropping the "von" from his last name.
John H. married Marguereta Maria (Margaret) Patjens, also from Hanover Province, in The Dalles, Oregon on October 22, 1887. John H. and Margaret had 5 children. Their names are: John A. Schassen, Emma Schassen, Anna M. Schassen, Lillian Schassen, and Hilda Schassen.
